Overview
Young Wooldridge, LLP is recognized as one of the leading law firms in Bakersfield, specializing in Water Law and Special Districts. Our department is a premier practice in agricultural water law in California. We are looking for an associate to focus on water resources litigation, public law, and environmental law.
Required Qualifications and Skills
· Litigation Skills. Proven ability to manage cases from initiation to trial, including pleadings, discovery, motion practice, and trial preparation is essential. Some trial experience is preferred.
· Public Agency Law Knowledge. Familiarity with California public agency law, including the Brown Act, Public Records Act, CEQA, and Political Reform Act is desirable but not mandatory.
· Detail-Oriented. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the capability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and accurately, are required.
· Communication Proficiency. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
· Collaborative Team Member. Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team, including providing and receiving constructive feedback, is required.
· Technological Proficiency. Competence in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat is required. Familiarity with Westlaw, Deadline Assistant, Everlaw, and ShareFile is preferred.
· Resourcefulness. A willingness and ability to learn, solve problems, and adapt are vital.
Responsibilities
· Case Management. Assume responsibility for a selection of active cases, including making routine appearances, conducting discovery, preparing motions, and trial preparation.
· Research and Strategy Development. Assist senior attorneys with complex legal and factual research and contribute to case strategy formulation.
· Court Filings. Prepare and review legal documents, including pleadings, discovery, motions, and briefs.
· Public Records Act and eDiscovery Oversight. Supervise and assist with document review for responses to eDiscovery and Public Records Act requests.
· Public Agency Law Support. Provide assistance as needed with transactional and board practice for a diverse range of public agency clients, primarily water agencies.
