As a Clinical Pharmacist focusing on Medication Policy at Cedars-Sinai Medical Network Foundation, you will be the key professional in the Pharmacy Department, overseeing clinical and medication use policies within the organization. Your responsibilities will encompass all facets of medication use policy analysis, from crafting new policies to managing medications within our Electronic Medical Record system, CS-Link.

The Clinical Pharmacist will identify, implement, and monitor evaluations regarding high-cost medication usage and make recommendations for the patient population served by Cedars-Sinai Medical Network Foundation. This role aims to steer the organization towards delivering timely, suitable, and cost-efficient drug therapies to our patients. You will analyze pharmaceutical usage and cost trends, collaborating with relevant internal stakeholders to devise clinical initiatives aimed at reducing costs associated with targeted therapies.
This position demands a strong proficiency in data analysis, familiarity with high-cost drug categories, exceptional analytical capabilities, and the ability to lead cross-functionally by advancing recommendations within various leadership forums, including the Cedars-Sinai Medical Network Physician Leadership and Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee.
Once targeted therapies are identified, you will be responsible for establishing new policies and educating staff and physicians on the processes to ensure timely and efficient execution of programs and services. Additionally, you will provide ongoing clinical support and oversight for all utilization management activities, adhering to Cedars-Sinai Medical Care Foundation policies and procedures while complying with applicable state and federal regulations, including CMS and Medicare Part D, as well as accreditation standards such as NCQA.
- Evaluate pharmacy care costs and trends, coordinating the creation of appropriate use protocols and guidelines. Prior experience is highly desired.
- Develop drug product reviews and recommendations by analyzing drug use trends, new drug releases, and reviewing primary literature. Experience in drug policy analysis and formulary management is preferred.
- Critically assess and interpret data from diverse sources to provide accurate and balanced responses within industry-based drug information guidelines.
- Establish criteria for reviewing non-formulary or non-preferred medications and communicate recommendations effectively.
- Research drug information to maintain current knowledge of medications and disease states, while monitoring pipeline medications and new research.
- Prepare documentation and develop communication for the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee review process and decisions.
- Educate physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and allied health professionals on safe medication use and changes in medication policy. Address drug information inquiries from healthcare professionals.
- Assist in training pharmacy residents and students, as well as providing continuing education for pharmacy staff and physicians when appropriate.
- Review drug usage data and make determinations based on member benefits and coverage criteria.
- Support budget forecasting and management efforts.
- Complete projects related to clinical pharmacy and medication use improvement as necessary.
- Assist with the implementation and education of new order sets, best practice alerts, and updates to drug lists within Cedars-Sinai's electronic medical record system, CS-Link.
- Take a lead role in implementing new drug-related initiatives and establishing new clinical pharmacy services as requested.
- Collaborate with the team to develop and implement clinical criteria for reviewing non-formulary or non-preferred medications.
- Review and revise communication materials for patients and prescribers regarding drug coverage and utilization programs.
