Position Overview

Role Summary: We are in search of a committed and enthusiastic Bilingual English Language Arts (ELA) Tutor to facilitate in-person tutoring sessions at a high school. The selected candidate will engage with high school learners to prepare them for the ELA Regents examination, delivering instruction in English while effectively communicating in Spanish with students and their families. This position plays a vital role in empowering students to develop a solid understanding of ELA, paving the way for their future academic achievements.

Compensation and Schedule:

  • Target start date in the upcoming academic year.
  • Flexible schedule consisting of 2-3 five-hour days each week.
  • Hourly pay rate ranging from $28 to $30 based on prior tutoring experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver personalized and small-group tutoring sessions in ELA for students in grades 9-12.
  • Design and execute engaging lesson plans tailored to the diverse needs of bilingual students.
  • Effectively communicate in Spanish with students and their families to foster understanding and participation.
  • Track and evaluate student progress, providing consistent feedback to educators and guardians.
  • Employ a variety of teaching strategies and resources to enhance student learning and involvement.
  • Collaborate with school personnel to cultivate a supportive and inclusive educational atmosphere.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and training opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, English, or a related discipline.
  • Proficiency in both English and Spanish is essential.
  • Prior experience in tutoring or teaching high school ELA is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the New York State ELA Regents examination.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Capability to effectively engage with high school students and adapt to their unique learning requirements.
