Friends of Children with Special Needs (FCSN) is a nonprofit organization that provides adaptive skills training to adults with developmental disabilities. We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Direct Support Instructor to join our team.
Job Summary:The Direct Support Instructor will work with adults with developmental disabilities in a 1:1 ratio, providing support and assistance with daily living activities, social skills, and adaptive skills training. The ideal candidate will have experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities and be able to communicate effectively with clients, families, and staff.
Responsibilities:- Establish and maintain a supportive and trusting relationship with clients.
- Provide continuous supervision to help minimize health, safety, and other risks to the well-being of clients.
- Learn and implement adaptive skills training curriculum, and assist participants in meeting their ISP goals and objectives.
- Learn and practice ABA (Applied Behavioral Analysis) and other behavior management techniques to support clients' behavior needs.
- Learn and practice CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) and keep everyone safe.
- Learn and perform First Aid and CPR, and other emergency services as appropriate.
- Transport clients as needed, using your insured vehicle.
- Attend staff meetings and training, and participate in parent check-in meetings, ISPs, and other assigned meetings.
- Provide care, supervision, and support to clients, including feeding, lifting/transferring, bowel, menses and bladder care, ambulation, and personal hygiene.
- Lead classes and activities, and prepare teaching materials in advance.
- Document participant's Daily Progress Report, and other data collections.
- Fulfill administrative paperwork in a timely manner, including BambooHR, Mileage reimbursements, and other reports as necessary.
- Education: High school diploma or GED required.
- Experience: Experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities or related social service programs is a plus.
- Professional Skills: Ability to speak, understand, read, and write in English, and receive certifications in CPR/first aid and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI).
- Personal Traits: Reliability, patience, compassion, and kindness towards special needs individuals, ability to work effectively under direction, and represent the organization in a professional manner.
