Position Overview:

As an Educator for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, you will be instrumental in addressing the academic, social, and communicative needs of students with hearing impairments. Your role will involve creating a supportive and engaging atmosphere conducive to learning. Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing and executing tailored educational plans (IEPs) for students with hearing challenges.
  • Employing diverse communication strategies, including American Sign Language (ASL), auditory-verbal techniques, and assistive technologies, to effectively engage with students.
  • Delivering direct instruction across various subjects, focusing on social skills and self-advocacy pertinent to the K-8 curriculum.
  • Collaborating with fellow educators, specialists, and support staff to establish a holistic support framework for students with hearing impairments.
  • Evaluating students' educational requirements and progress, making necessary modifications to instructional approaches.
  • Championing the needs and rights of students with hearing impairments.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Deaf Education or a related discipline.
  • Valid teaching certification/license in Deaf Education or a relevant field.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with additional communication methods utilized by students with hearing impairments.
  • Preferred experience working with K-8 students with hearing challenges.
  • Strong grasp of deaf education methodologies and effective practices for elementary and middle school learners.
  • Exceptional communication, teamwork, and interpersonal abilities.
