1. Conduct thorough assessments of patients' physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs while evaluating their adaptation to health changes.
2. Formulate individualized care plans based on patients' conditions, symptoms, and treatment responses.
3. Provide education to patients, families, and caregivers regarding disease processes, treatment options, side effects, and symptom management.
4. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure seamless continuity of care.
5. Refer patients and families to appropriate clinical resources or professionals, such as social work, home health care, and clinical nutrition.
7. Integrate research findings and evidence-based practices into clinical care.
In addition to the core responsibilities of a Registered Nurse (RN), the Infusion RN will also:
8. Provide comprehensive nursing care and assessments.
9. Demonstrate knowledge of standard treatments and medication side effects.
10. Perform nursing assessments, review relevant lab results, and evaluate pain and other symptoms.
11. Administer IV hydration, electrolyte replacement, chemotherapy/biotherapy, and blood products.
Safe Handling of Hazardous Drugs:
12. Recognize the potentially hazardous nature of many administered agents and adhere to proper precautions during handling.
13. Follow established protocols for the safe disposal of materials used in the administration of chemotherapy and other hazardous agents.
Patient and Family Education:
14. Provide education to patients and families in alignment with the treatment and care plan.
15. Assess learning needs for patients and caregivers.
16. Ensure patients have access to clinic contact information and understand when to seek assistance if symptoms arise or persist post-infusion therapy.
Communication and Teamwork:
17. Communicate or escalate patient symptoms and concerns to the healthcare provider as needed.
18. Collaborate with the care team to deliver effective and efficient patient care.
19. Request consultations from social work, dieticians, spiritual care, or other supportive care teams when necessary.
Professional Development and Clinic Engagement:
20. Engage in continuing education, departmental projects, committee work, and quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
Required:
1. Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
2. Valid Washington State Registered Nurse (RN) license.
3. Current BLS AHA Health Provider Card (or equivalent), with renewal every two years.
4. ONS Chemotherapy Provider Card (to be obtained within 3 months of hire).
5. Strong critical thinking skills, with the ability to analyze, apply standards, and develop clinical judgment.
6. Excellent time management skills, with the ability to organize and manage tasks independently.
7. Effective communication skills, including active listening and the ability to convey information clearly.
Preferred:
1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
2. Certification in oncology or a relevant specialty area.
3. Two years of RN experience in an ambulatory infusion setting.
