Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Early Education Teacher to join our team at the YMCA of Honolulu. As a key member of our childcare team, you will be responsible for creating a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment for children aged 2-5 years old.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and lead age-appropriate learning experiences, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for children.
  • Interact with children, providing proper supervision and guidance at all times.
  • Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of program components and activities.
  • Follow all procedures and standards as established by the law or the YMCA.
  • Provide assistance with homework and encourage academic progress.
  • Conduct ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
  • Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating professional behavior and understanding positive youth development approaches.
  • Facilitate a program environment that invites exploration, promotes positive play, and welcomes children.
  • Promote a team concept through a positive approach to supervision, communication, and interactions with others.
Requirements
  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Reliable transportation to and from assigned location is required.
  • Mandatory trainings (such as orientation, child management, child abuse prevention, basic health & safety, etc.) required within the first 3 months of hire.
  • Fulfillment of state-specific hiring standards and completion of YMCA program-specific training.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required within the first 30 days of hire.
  • TB clearance and medical report from physician required within the first 2 weeks of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Less than one year child care experience, preferably with ages 2-5, experience with leadership responsibilities.
  • Preferred comparable experience working with early learners 2-5 years of age.
