Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Early Learning Educational Assistant to join our team at the Hawaii State Department of Education. As an Early Learning Educational Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing learning experiences for young children in our Executive Office on Early Learning (EOEL) Public Prekindergarten Program classrooms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cultivate healthy, challenging learning environments and experiences for children.
  • Converse with children in a positive manner during child-initiated activities and during routines and transitions.
  • Ensure safe departure of children at the end of the day.
  • Instruct and model appropriate behavior for children.
  • Encourage positive social rapport among children.
  • Assist in guiding children during transitions and routines.
  • Address conflicts between children.
  • Engage with children during play to promote development and learning in all domains of development.
Requirements
  • Possession of a current Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential, or successful completion of coursework for a certificate that meets the requirements for a CDA Credential, or enrollment in a program or coursework that prepares the individual to obtain a CDA Credential.
  • Basic Education Requirements: High school diploma, General Equivalency Diploma (GED), or equivalent, and one of the following minimum education requirements: 48 semester credits, baccalaureate level courses, from an accredited institution of higher education recognized by the Hawaii Department of Education, or an Associate in Arts (AA) or Science (AS) degree or higher from an accredited institution recognized by the Hawaii Department of Education, or successful completion of the ParaPro Assessment provided by the Education Testing Service (ETS).
  • Experience Requirements: Except for the substitutions provided for in this specification, applicants must have had experience of the kind and quality described below and in the amount shown in the table below.
Working Conditions

This position works independently to provide learning experiences for young children in our Executive Office on Early Learning (EOEL) Public Prekindergarten Program classrooms. The work environment is fast-paced and requires the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.

Salary and Benefits

The advertised salary is based on full-time employment and includes shortage and school year differentials, if applicable. Applicants must meet all the requirements for the position they are seeking as of the date of the application, unless otherwise specified.
