Position Overview

The Johns Hopkins University is seeking candidates for the role of Economics Teaching Support Specialist. This position is designed to enhance the academic experience of students by providing essential educational assistance in a professional environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend instructional sessions and take detailed notes from lectures.
  • Assess student performance through assignments, essays, and examinations.
  • Collaborate with the course instructor to establish grading standards.
  • Maintain and update individual and overall course grades using various formats, including spreadsheets and online learning platforms.
  • Ensure timely submission of student grades for Early Warning, Midterm Reporting, and Final Grades.
  • Support the management of the course's online platform, including posting assignments and updating course materials.
  • Prepare grading materials and answer keys for problem sets.
  • Hold regular office hours to assist students both in-person and virtually.
  • Respond promptly to student inquiries regarding academic performance and course content.
  • Organize and lead weekly review sessions and TA meetings.
  • Engage in regular discussions with the instructor regarding course assignments and related matters.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the course instructor.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, capable of engaging with a diverse student body.
  • Proficient in technology and online learning environments.
  • In-depth knowledge of the subject matter relevant to the courses offered.

Educational Background

A Master's Degree in a relevant field is required, along with experience as a graduate student in a supportive role.
