Position Overview:
The Clinical Pharmacist plays a vital role in enhancing patient health outcomes through effective medication management.
Under general supervision, the Clinical Pharmacist is responsible for overseeing the operational, distributive, and clinical aspects of the Pharmacy. This includes the meticulous review, processing, verification, and monitoring of physician orders, patient medication records, and completed prescriptions, along with conducting routine rounds on designated nursing units.
Timely and accurate drug information, recommendations, and interventions are provided to physicians, healthcare professionals, and patients alike. The Clinical Pharmacist collaborates with the Director and Assistant Director of Pharmacy to optimize departmental performance and adapt services to meet the evolving needs of the hospital and community.
Additionally, the Clinical Pharmacist is tasked with conducting, executing, and presenting assigned projects to the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and other relevant committees as necessary. Responsibilities delegated by the Director or Assistant Director of Pharmacy Services are to be completed accurately and promptly.
Qualifications:
Experience:
Prior experience in a hospital pharmacy setting is preferred.
The Clinical Pharmacist is expected to maintain a high level of professional competency by completing a minimum of 15 Continuing Education (CE) credit hours annually, which includes at least 6 CE live credit hours.
Education:
A degree from an accredited college of pharmacy is preferred.
Maintaining professional competency through continuing education is essential, with a requirement of at least 15 CE credit hours each year, including 6 live credit hours.
Special Skills:
The ability to work independently or with minimal supervision while managing stress effectively is crucial.
Collaboration with health-system and pharmacy staff is essential, along with the capacity to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changing workloads and schedules. Strong prioritization, decision-making, and responsiveness to urgent requests are necessary. The Clinical Pharmacist must meet the pharmaceutical care needs of patients across all age groups, including neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations.
Essential skills include effective communication, supervisory capabilities, organizational proficiency, a commitment to learning, and basic teaching skills.
Physical Requirements:
This role requires light to medium physical activity. The employee will frequently stand, sit, and walk; utilize hands and fingers; and communicate verbally.
Occasionally, the employee must exert 15 to 20 pounds of force, with frequent exertion of 5 to 10 pounds, and constant handling of objects weighing up to 5 pounds.
Normal hearing and vision are required to perform work and communicate effectively. The role demands intense concentration, equipment operation, and the ability to listen in low-noise environments. Generally, this position is performed in a well-lit, well-ventilated, climate-controlled environment under secure working conditions.
