Role Summary
The CNA will play a vital role in assisting nursing staff in delivering high-quality, empathetic patient care. This includes performing both direct and indirect care tasks, utilizing foundational nursing assistant skills and knowledge under the guidance of a registered nurse.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care as assigned by the Registered Nurse, adhering to the CNA licensure scope.
- Execute essential technical skills, which may encompass: CPR, monitoring and documenting vital signs, tracking fluid intake/output, applying dressings, and recognizing/reporting common health issues.
- Assist patients with personal hygiene, including bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting.
- Support patients in mobility, including walking, exercising, and transitioning in and out of bed.
- Maintain inventory of supplies by restocking patient rooms and communal areas to ensure readiness for patient care.
- Document pertinent patient care information accurately.
- May provide administrative support to the unit, including order entry and answering calls.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications
Education: Completion of an accredited Certified Nursing Assistant program is mandatory.
Experience: A minimum of one year in an acute care setting is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate an understanding of age-specific care principles.
Licensure/Certification: Current CNA certification as mandated by state regulations. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is also required upon hire.
Skills and Attributes
The ideal candidate will exhibit a respectful and compassionate demeanor towards patients, families, and colleagues. Organizational skills, adaptability, and the ability to work independently in a dynamic environment are essential. Strong problem-solving abilities and effective communication skills are also required. Basic proficiency in computer operations and customer service is expected.
Physical and Cognitive Requirements
This role necessitates moderate physical activity, including prolonged standing and the ability to lift items weighing up to 50 lbs. Candidates should be prepared for occasional exposure to environmental factors and biohazards.
