Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and manage academic classes, ensuring a positive and productive learning environment.
  • Implement and adhere to the Company's Core Values and operating principles.
  • Collaborate with students to help them achieve academic gains, attainment in assigned subject areas, and/or High School Diploma/High School Equivalency (HSD/HSE) obtainment.
  • Meet department goals and objectives as assigned by the department manager.
  • Promote a positive and desirable atmosphere within the classroom setting to foster maximum student motivation.
  • Maintain a high degree of discipline within the classroom setting to ensure maximum learning.
  • Document student records according to policy requirements and center operating procedures, and access and input relevant student data, including attendance, performance, progress, positive behavior, and disciplinary incidents.
  • Establish a high degree of student/instructor rapport.
  • Utilize provided curriculum resources, implement new curriculum, and develop curriculum through Educational Learning Plans.
  • Integrate applied academic activities into daily classroom curriculum.
  • Prepare for and lead classes, ensuring adequate classroom preparation.
  • Track student performance and achievement.
  • Assess and recommend student awards as approved within the center's student incentive plan.
  • Record attendance at the beginning of each class period.
  • Assist in the completion of all necessary Job Corps forms and enter case notes at least once a month for each assigned student.
  • Ensure the security and care of equipment, curriculum, tests, and supplies.
  • Accountable for the cleanliness of classrooms.
  • Prepare reports, requisitions, and evaluations of student performance (ESP) in a timely manner.
  • Assist the manager during scheduled property inventory.
  • Monitor and review daily each student's progress to ensure they are making adequate progress and performing their own work.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

Minimum: Bachelor's degree. Certified to teach in the state in which the center is located. (RO may waive if the center is unable to hire a certified teacher, but the candidate must actively pursue certification along an agreed-upon timeframe).

Preferred: One year in a teaching capacity with disadvantaged youth.

Knowledge: Knowledge of required subject area, excellent communication skills, both oral and written, excellent organizational skills, must obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid Certification, ability to motivate and inspire students, ability to effectively relate to student population.
