Job Overview

Position Title: Childcare Teacher

Compensation: $12.30 per hour

Employment Status: Non-Exempt

Supervisor: Childcare Director

Objective: To enhance the quality of childcare services and exemplify developmentally suitable practices that align with Early Head Start performance standards and Missouri state licensing regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Foster and uphold a clean, safe, and nurturing learning atmosphere.
  • Organize essential care routines to meet children's personal needs.
  • Engage with children on an individual basis or rotate between classrooms as necessary.
  • Demonstrate suitable interactions between adults and children as well as among adults.
  • Encourage the social and emotional growth of children while maintaining effective communication with parents.
  • Address disciplinary matters promptly, adhering to state discipline policies.
  • Implement the Conscious Discipline approach.
  • Participate in relevant year-round training programs.
  • Report any issues to the immediate supervisor.
  • Maintain regular attendance to ensure a consistent and effective program.
  • Physically engage with children at their level, including swift movements to ensure their safety.
  • Complete necessary records, reports, and paperwork by established deadlines.
  • Execute daily programs in accordance with CAP procedures, EHS Performance Standards, Licensing Regulations, YWCA, and Discovery Childcare program policies.
  • Perform other assigned duties as required.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent, along with a CDA or a commitment to obtain one.
  • Ability to pass Child Abuse/Neglect and criminal background checks.
  • Must pass required physical examinations and TB assessments.
  • 2-3 years of experience in a licensed childcare environment preferred.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and completing forms with necessary mathematical skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
Work Environment
  • 40-hour workweek with flexible scheduling to meet staffing requirements and maintain the necessary adult/child ratio.
  • Work is conducted in a licensed childcare facility, protected from adverse weather and contaminants.
  • Evening and weekend availability may be required for staff meetings and training sessions.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods, bend, stoop, and lift, generally not exceeding 50 lbs.
  • Consistent ability to engage in activities requiring cooperation, instruction, or communication with others.
  • Effective communication skills in person with program participants, funders, and colleagues.
