Position Overview
The State Center Community College District is seeking a dedicated Physics Educator to join our part-time faculty pool. This role is essential in fostering a rich educational environment for our diverse student body.
Key Responsibilities
- Delivering instruction in Physics across various formats, including evening and weekend classes, online courses, and large group sessions.
- Upholding professional standards and maintaining current knowledge in the field of Physics.
- Teaching introductory and advanced courses in physics, physical science, and astronomy.
- Employing diverse teaching methodologies and integrating innovative technology to enhance learning experiences.
- Effectively communicating with students to facilitate their understanding of complex concepts.
- Utilizing appropriate assessment methods to evaluate student performance, including tests, assignments, and oral presentations.
- Providing comprehensive course syllabi and maintaining accurate classroom records in accordance with institutional policies.
- Submitting timely grading and evaluation reports for all students.
- Fulfilling all other instructional duties as mandated by institutional regulations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in Physics, Astronomy, or Astrophysics; OR
- Bachelor's degree in Physics or Astronomy with a Master's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Meteorology, or Geophysics; OR
- A valid California Community College credential; OR
- Equivalent education and/or experience (equivalency required).
All candidates must demonstrate an understanding of and responsiveness to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, promoting equity-minded practices within the classroom.
Desirable Qualifications
- Proven ability to design and implement innovative teaching strategies based on physics education research.
- Commitment to collaborative work with fellow science instructors and laboratory technicians.
- Passion for teaching and supporting student success.
- Relevant professional experience in the field.
- Experience with computer-assisted instruction and other educational technologies.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written, to foster effective relationships with students and colleagues.
- Ability to develop and enhance curriculum focused on student learning outcomes.
- Experience working with students from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Recent experience engaging with racially minoritized students and understanding the historical context of their educational experiences.
- Willingness to reflect on and improve instructional practices to better support all students.
- Experience addressing equity issues within the classroom.
- Potential to contribute positively to the institution's growth and vitality.
- Familiarity with the mission and goals of community colleges.
Compensation
Starting salary rates range from $45.49 to $61.78 for lecture courses, $38.67 to $52.55 for laboratory courses, and $38.30 to $52.05 for non-instructional roles. Sick leave accrual is based on assignment hours.

Additional Information
This is a part-time position with applications accepted on an ongoing basis until the position is filled. Candidates will be placed in a continuous pool for consideration.
