Senior Accountant Job Description

The Senior Accountant plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial statements at Honsador Lumber. Reporting directly to the Division Controller, this position is responsible for preparing and consolidating financial statements, analyzing variances, and overseeing the monthly closing process.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and consolidate financial statements, including financial close and monthly activities such as roll forward financial models, analyzing and reporting variances, and reviewing entries recorded by the Accounting team.
  • Investigate and resolve account discrepancies and issues of non-compliance, ensuring accurate and compliant financial reporting.
  • Assist with ensuring company ERP processing systems and transactions are posted accurately, and analyze and describe balance sheet and operating expense fluctuations.
  • Review journal entries and account reconciliations for accuracy, and assist with the preparation of financial statements and report variances.
  • Work directly with 3rd parties, such as financial institutions and brokers, providing information as requested, and assist with the development of the annual operating budget at both the consolidated and business unit levels.
  • Perform internal audits and financial risk assessments, and facilitate intervention strategies, as well as assist with yearly audit and tax preparation.
  • Develop and document internal control policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements, and ensure record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies.
Requirements:
  • 4+ years of progressively responsible experience in a mid-size or larger Corporation.
  • Certified Public Accountant designation.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
  • Advanced competency in financial management and accounting software.
  • High level of written and oral communication skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting standards and industry regulations.
  • Superb organizational and time management abilities.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills.
