Position Overview:

The Behavioral Health System Baltimore, Inc. is seeking a qualified Medical Consultant to provide expert medical consultation services. This role is essential in supporting the delivery of behavioral health services to individuals experiencing severe mental health and substance use challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

The Medical Consultant will engage in the following areas:

  • Capitation Project: Offer medical insights to the Clinical Services Team and Capitation providers, ensuring effective service delivery.
  • Accountability Department: Provide medical consultation on complaints and critical incidents, enhancing service quality and compliance.
  • Harm Reduction: Oversee the prescription and dispensing of naloxone, contributing to overdose prevention efforts.

Specific Duties Include:

  • Conducting clinical reviews and providing recommendations for high-risk cases.
  • Facilitating morbidity and mortality reviews to improve service outcomes.
  • Participating in clinical case conferences and quarterly meetings.
  • Training provider staff on best practices in behavioral health.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess:

  • An M.D. with completed specialty training in psychiatry.
  • Board certification in psychiatry, with a preference for additional certifications in addictions.
  • A valid medical license to practice.
  • A minimum of three years of clinical experience, with administrative experience being advantageous.
  • Familiarity with the public behavioral health system.

Compensation:

The consultant will receive a competitive hourly rate, with a defined maximum contract amount. Additional hours or services may require prior approval.

Work Environment:

This position supports a hybrid work model, allowing for a combination of remote and in-person activities, ensuring flexibility in service delivery.
