Job Title: Mechanical Engineer

Smith Seckman Reid is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Houston, TX.

About the Role:

We are looking for a talented Mechanical Engineer to perform a variety of assignments requiring the application of standard design engineering techniques for small projects or selected segments of large projects, mostly sports or entertainment facilities. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of mechanical systems and be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop design approaches and concepts for projects with conceptual input and oversight from senior design staff.
  • Perform specific engineering studies and other design analyses using industry software.
  • Oversee preparation of drawings, ensuring accuracy and neatness of work.
  • Evaluate the work of design colleagues and provide feedback and/or corrections.
  • Attend meetings with owners, clients, or architects as needed.
  • Coordinate with local authorities, utilities, and municipalities to incorporate associated construction, code, and government requirements.
  • Assist with the development of the overall man-hour budget and be responsible for the man-hour budget within the discipline.
  • Provide input, feedback, and updates on project schedules; plan work in accordance with the schedule.
  • Responsible for performing studies, load calculations, and selection of equipment appropriate to the project design.
  • Responsible for coordinating equipment and overall design space requirements with the architect and other disciplines.
  • Attend in-house project kick-off meeting and design meetings.
  • Review work for technical accuracy and completeness prior to the final QA/QC review.
  • Communicate design requirements and answer questions from contractors and suppliers during the bid or construction phases.
  • Conduct project job site visits during construction to monitor progress and observe installed construction; make comments based on design specifications, owner expectations, and building codes.
  • Review shop drawings and submittals.
  • Maintain detailed records of communications with clients, contractors, vendors, and team members.
  • Assist in training, mentoring, and/or developmental guidance of designers and EITs.
  • Maintain a continued focus on keeping up with industry trends and changes through continued self-education and training.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited college with six years applicable experience in discipline design and analysis.
  • Must have two to four years experience as a PE.
  • Registered Professional Engineer.
  • Must have project management experience.
  • Basic knowledge of project financial management and how to create and maintain budgets.
