Position Overview:

Edgewater Federal Solutions, Inc. is in search of a qualified Systems Engineer to support our federal government clientele. The Systems Engineer will deliver Tier III assistance for the deployment, troubleshooting, and upkeep of both classified and unclassified Information Technology (IT) systems. This role involves configuring and managing various operating systems, installing software, resolving issues, maintaining system integrity, and configuring network components to enhance reliability and performance. The Systems team is responsible for developing and executing flexible technology strategies that drive successful business outcomes. A comprehensive background in technology strategy formulation, network consolidation, virtualization, modernization, SAN management, data center operations, and database administration is essential. Note: A current DOE Q or DOD/DOJ TS clearance is mandatory for this position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provision, install, configure, operate, and maintain multiple server environments.
  • Plan, implement, and uphold systems configuration following established configuration management protocols.
  • Execute installations of operating systems and associated software.
  • Provide support for end-user applications and assist application support teams with implementation and troubleshooting tasks.
  • Conduct routine maintenance on software and hardware, including firmware upgrades, patches, and fixes.
  • Perform daily backup operations to ensure data integrity.
  • Prepare and maintain technical specifications documentation.
  • Contribute to cybersecurity efforts through vulnerability management, STIG (Security Technical Implementation Guide) implementation, and incident response activities.
  • Advise on technical standards and policies.
  • Collaborate with vendors to troubleshoot, maintain, and implement hardware and software solutions.
  • Analyze and enhance system performance and reliability.
  • Conduct systems inventory and update asset management records.
  • Document and revise systems architecture diagrams and server rack layouts using Microsoft Visio.
  • Provide technical support, training, and system documentation to users to facilitate efficient application operation.
  • Conduct risk assessments, account audits, access rights evaluations, and activity audits.
  • Develop disaster recovery strategies, including the implementation of warm site solutions and testing of critical application failover.
  • Work in collaboration with server, SAN, and application teams to identify operational characteristics, diagnose issues, propose viable solutions, and implement the most effective solutions in a timely manner, adhering to the Change Control Process.
  • Develop and maintain installation and configuration protocols; contribute to and uphold system standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Monitor system performance through analysis, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and installation of system hardware, firmware patching, and VMware software updates.
  • Document and share knowledge with colleagues through training sessions.
  • Communicate insights, status updates, and progress to management through clear written and verbal communication.

Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship is required per contract.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in an IT Operations environment.
  • At least 5 years of experience in directing system-level design and configuration of products, including hardware, OS, and platform specifications.
  • 3+ years of experience with VMware ESXi/vSphere/vCenter; VDI Instant Clone management experience is preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience supporting classified systems.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with VDI Linked/Instant Clone management is preferred.
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), Engineer (RHCE), Architect (RHCA) certifications.
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) or higher certification.
  • VMware Certified Professional – 5.0 or higher, specializing in Datacenter Virtualization and Desktop.
  • Citrix Certified Expert in Virtualization and Networking.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure Stack.
  • Experience with Nutanix technologies.
  • ITIL v3 or v4 certification.
  • Certifications in MS Azure, VMware, Cisco, and RHEL are advantageous.
