Job Title: Culinary Specialist

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Culinary Specialist to join our team at The Elmhurst Healthcare. As a key member of our culinary team, you will be responsible for preparing and cooking food in large quantities according to diet, consistency, and cycles of menu.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and cook food according to established standards
  • Determine quantity of all food needed in meal preparation
  • Follow recipes and use proper food preparation and handling techniques
  • Serve meals and ensure that all cooking temp logs, temp when taking out of oven and holding temp, are up to date
  • Direct functions of one or more workers who assist in preparing and serving meals
  • Discard expired food and compile and maintain records of food as assigned
  • Take inventory of supplies and equipment as assigned and receive and store food supplies, using FIFO Method (First in First Out)
  • Ensure all supplies and equipment are kept in a clean/sanitary condition and wash pots, pans, dishes, utensils, and other cooking equipment
  • Wash floors, walls, and linoleum in kitchen, dining room, and food storage area
  • Update Dietary Cards and assist in training new employees
  • Promote a culture of safety and manage dietary personnel in absence of Food Service Director
  • Contribute to an environment that is respectful, team-oriented and responsive to the concerns of co-workers, patients and families
  • Participate in quality improvement activities (QAPI) as requested and maintain confidentiality and protects sensitive Protected Health Information (HIPAA) at all times

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years or older
  • Experience in a culinary environment, large volume food preparation and service is preferred
  • Demonstrates organizational and critical thinking skills, effective interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to be patient while interacting with challenged or difficult residents
  • Ability to work independently, problem solve and make decisions as necessary and create a resident-centered environment
  • Ability to react decisively and quickly in emergency situations and knowledge of policies and procedures and state and federal regulations

Physical Demands:

This job requires standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, finger, handle or feet, push/pull, stop, kneel, crouch or crawl, reach with hands and arms, taste or smell, and lifting up to 10 lbs, up to 20 lbs, up to 50 lbs, up to 100 lbs, and > 100 lbs.

Special Vision Requirements:

This job has special vision requirements including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Special Hearing Requirements:

This job has special hearing requirements including ability to hear alarms on equipment, ability to hear client call, and ability to hear instructions from physician/department staff.
