Phlebotomy Specialist

Job Summary:
The Phlebotomy Specialist is responsible for collecting blood specimens from patients in various settings, including inpatient, outpatient, and off-site locations. This role requires proper phlebotomy technique, correct patient and specimen identification, and adherence to established collection processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensures competency in all required skills and completes annual competency assessments.
- Utilizes defined collection processes in various environments to ensure proper specimen collection and identification.
- Completes order requests, validates encounter selection, and documents collection data.
- Collects blood from the correct patient, properly labels specimens, and follows standard precautions.
- Works in assigned locations, responds to department needs, and trains new employees and students.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a certified Phlebotomy course.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous hospital experience.
