The Community Planning and Development Department (CPD) of the City and County of Denver is seeking an International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) Plans Review Engineer to join our dedicated team of engineering professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assessing and ensuring compliance with energy code designs for both commercial and residential properties in alignment with Denver's modified energy regulations.
  2. Updating codes and policies while considering long-term energy code strategies to achieve Denver's short, medium, and long-term objectives.
  3. Collaborating across various trades, disciplines, and City departments to identify discrepancies and enhance processes.
  4. Conducting community outreach, gathering public feedback, and implementing initiatives to address community needs.
  5. Creating, executing, and leading energy code training programs for diverse audiences.
  6. Ensuring consistency in internal operations and external deliverables.
  7. Developing training resources for staff and external stakeholders regarding IECC.
  8. Working alongside department inspectors and field personnel to provide guidance and training.
  9. Performing other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Our ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications, skills, and experience:

  1. Proficient in interpreting and applying energy codes (IECC) and other related building codes (IBC, IMC, ASHRAE, etc.); comprehensive understanding of energy sources, building energy usage, and energy reduction strategies at neighborhood and district levels.
  2. Experienced in high-performance design for commercial and residential projects, including design processes and project delivery, along with managing associated teams.
  3. Knowledgeable about emerging technologies related to energy and building performance.
  4. Experience with energy modeling software to demonstrate compliance with IECC/ASHRAE/LEED and predictive modeling for building energy use.
  5. Able to work effectively across teams and disciplines to achieve common objectives.
  6. Excellent written, verbal, and technical communication skills; demonstrates enthusiasm and commitment to energy conservation.
  7. Experience in community outreach and implementing new initiatives; adept at developing and delivering training programs and effectively communicating information to various audiences (in-house staff, homeowners, contractors, inspectors, designers, architects, energy modelers, etc.).
  8. A minimum of five years of direct design and project delivery experience across a range of building types (multi-family residential, commercial, and residential).
  9. Familiarity with sustainable design practices in both design and construction; LEED AP certification preferred.
  10. Field experience as an inspector and/or project commissioning experience preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications:

  1. Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related field as required by the specific opening.
  2. Experience: Three (3) years of professional engineering work experience after obtaining a Professional Engineering (PE) license. (Some positions may require experience in a specific engineering area).
  3. Must possess a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
  4. Must be registered as a Professional Engineer (PE) by the Colorado State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers at the time of application, or registered as an Architect by the Colorado State Board of Registration at the time of application.
  5. Registration in another state will be accepted in lieu of this requirement, provided that the applicant obtains Colorado registration upon completion of probation.
  6. Licenses and certifications must remain current as a condition of employment.
  7. Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted. Additional relevant education may be considered as a substitute for experience requirements.
