Job Title: Youth Development Specialist

Job Type: Part-time

Location: Locations throughout Knox County

Job Summary:

The Youth Development Specialist will provide direct supervision of a group of children in an after school and/or day camp setting. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with children and a commitment to creating a safe and engaging environment that fosters social, physical, spiritual, and mental growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Site Director with teaching, curriculum planning, and supervision of students in the after school program.
  • Create positive relationships with students to support their optimal development.
  • Implement weekly goals and metrics to support academic advancement.
  • Recognize potential issues in the program and apply problem-solving techniques as needed.
  • Assist with daily cleaning and maintenance of equipment, supplies, and the child care facility.
  • Collaborate with the Site Director and other Y staff to create educational curriculum that is culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with state regulations.
  • Follow Y policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.
  • Maintain a positive relationship with parents and other staff, modeling relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Follow all Y rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures, and complete incident and accident reports as necessary.
  • Uphold Judeo-Christian principles that are central to our mission by modeling behaviors that exemplify the Y's core values - Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age and have a High School Diploma or GED.
  • One year or more of college preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children, preferably in a day camp setting.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
  • Ability to meet state requirements.

Work Environment:

The employee will be regularly exposed to outdoor weather and will be required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands and fingers. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Language Skills:

The employee must be able to read and interpret documents, write routine reports and correspondence, and speak effectively before groups of children or employees.

Certificates, Licenses, Courses:

  • Required DHS Training Courses.
  • CPR/First Aid certification within 60 days of hire.
  • New Employee Orientation.
