POSITION TITLE: Practical Nursing Specialist

DEPARTMENT: Nursing Support

REPORTS TO: Chief Nursing Officer

OVERVIEW:

In alignment with the standards set forth by NCQA Medical Home Recognition and JACHO, SWLA has established collaborative teams of healthcare professionals dedicated to addressing the clinical needs of patients who select SWLA as their primary healthcare provider. This multidisciplinary team includes physicians, mid-level practitioners, and nursing support personnel as outlined in this position description. To fulfill the essential duties required of nursing support staff, SWLA is committed to recruiting qualified individuals in the roles of Medical Assistants, both certified and non-certified, as well as Licensed Practical Nurses. Compensation will be adjusted based on educational background, licensure, and relevant experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Diploma. Successful completion of an accredited Practical Nursing program.
  2. Fulfillment of all requirements set by the Louisiana Board of Practical Nursing, including current state licensure if applicable.
  3. Current BLS/IV Certification. Completion of CEUs or equivalent contact hours for re-licensure or re-certification, if necessary. Must successfully pass a competency assessment.
  4. Ability to maintain a professional demeanor in high-pressure situations.
  5. Proficient in written and verbal communication, ensuring clarity in documentation.
  6. Present a professional appearance and uphold the highest standards of patient and community relations while representing the organization.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Actively participate as a vital member of the multidisciplinary care team.
  2. Welcome patients and ensure minimal wait times in the examination area.
  3. Gather essential information regarding the patient to assist the physician in delivering medical care, including chief complaints and any specific clinical concerns.
  4. Ensure patients are appropriately prepared for their evaluations.
  5. Support the physician during necessary procedures and examinations, administer medications within the scope of practice as directed, collect laboratory specimens, and carry out assigned responsibilities to provide comprehensive patient care.
  6. Interpret physician's instructions for patients and/or their families to address immediate health needs.
  7. Coordinate follow-up care as required to meet patients' needs.
  8. Contact patients who have missed appointments to reschedule.
  9. Prepare and maintain examination rooms, clinic equipment, supplies, and overall environment for efficient operations.
  10. Engage in training and health promotion initiatives as a member of the healthcare team.
  11. Perform additional tasks as directed by the Director of Nursing, Chief Medical Officer, and assigned Medical Provider.
  12. Assume extra responsibilities as necessary to ensure the delivery of quality healthcare services.
