General Overview:
The Building Maintenance Specialist is responsible for performing essential manual tasks related to the upkeep and sanitation of municipal buildings and facilities. This role involves a variety of cleaning and maintenance duties to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all visitors and staff.
Key Responsibilities:
To excel in this position, the individual must be capable of fulfilling the following duties effectively:
- Open and secure facilities daily.
- Conduct sweeping and vacuuming of designated areas, rooms, and entrances.
- Shampoo carpets, mop, strip, wax, and buff floors as necessary.
- Manage waste disposal and recycling efforts in and around the facilities.
- Thoroughly clean restrooms, including mirrors, sinks, toilets, and replenish supplies.
- Dust and clean furniture, walls, window sills, and other surfaces.
- Maintain cleanliness of window blinds and glass partitions.
- Operate custodial machinery and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Identify and procure cleaning supplies as needed; maintain inventory records.
- Report any maintenance issues or concerns to the appropriate personnel.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A solid understanding of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
- Proficiency in using standard office and data entry tools.
- The ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately.
- Capability to operate and maintain tools and equipment used in cleaning tasks.
- Physical stamina to perform demanding manual labor.
- Independence in completing tasks while fostering positive relationships with colleagues and the public.
Education and Experience:
A high school diploma or GED is required, along with experience in using cleaning tools and supplies, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements:
A valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record is necessary.
Physical Requirements:
This position requires frequent physical exertion, including lifting up to 50 pounds, standing, walking, and performing repetitive motions. The role may involve working in various conditions, including wet environments and near mechanical equipment. Adherence to safety protocols and the use of personal protective equipment may be required.
