Job Title: Speech and Language Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Speech and Language Specialist to join our team at South Orange Elementary School.

Job Summary:

The Speech and Language Specialist will provide speech and language instruction to classified disabled students in grades K-5. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in speech and language pathology and excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform assessments, analyses, and classifications of students' communication competencies and characteristics.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver treatment programs for children with speech and/or language deficiencies.
  • Consult with teachers to assist in the implementation of strategies, modifications, and accommodations specific to classified pupils' IEPs.
  • Conduct ongoing evaluation of all children in the program to determine appropriateness of their program.
  • Maintain current records of services provided.
  • Assume primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain contact with parents of assigned students.
  • Perform other related duties at the request of the Supervisor of Special Services.
  • Maintain professional competence through in-service education and other professional growth activities.
Requirements:
  • New Jersey Certification, Speech/Language Specialist Certification.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident/immigrant status.
Working Relationships:

To maintain effective relationships with teachers, students, parents, administrators, and appropriate community groups.

Terms of Employment:

10 Months, Salary as per SOMEA Agreement.
