This is a supplemental position with some shifts on the weekends.
Job Responsibilities- Represent the City and the Parking Division as an ambassador to the visitors, employees, and customers of the downtown area by patrolling the parking structures and the Downtown Core.
- Assist customers with the use of automated pay stations and provide a safe and welcoming environment for downtown parkers.
- Perform minor maintenance and repair work.
Incumbents receive general supervision from full-time Parking Program staff.
Examples of Duties- Patrol parking facilities on foot.
- Assist motorists who park in the parking structures and in the Downtown core with payment using the automated pay and exit stations.
- Collect and deposit money received by the automated parking equipment.
- Observe and report prohibited activities such as graffiti, vandalism, skateboarding, and suspicious behavior.
- Perform basic maintenance on parking structures and parking control equipment.
- Maintain assigned areas, facilities, and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
- Provide positive and effective customer service.
- Inspect parking structure and parking control equipment daily for damages or other problems.
- Collect litter and empty trash receptacles in and around the structures.
- Promote public relations by providing information and assistance to the public.
- Policies and practices of the City of San Luis Obispo, especially those related to the City's Parking Services.
- The safe and proper use of general maintenance tools and equipment.
- Principles and practices of customer service.
One year of experience that includes public contact, money handling, and record keeping.
Experience that demonstrates basic janitorial and maintenance skills is preferred.
