Job Title: Project Engineer

Layton Construction Inc is seeking a highly skilled Project Engineer to join our team. As a Project Engineer, you will assist Project Managers in ensuring that work installed on the project meets plan and specification requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assure compliance by becoming intimately familiar with the assigned project plans and specifications.
  • Review shop drawings and submittals, and communicate inconsistencies to the architect.
  • Recommend labor-saving and cost-saving methods to save Layton and/or the owner money in actual construction.
  • Attend and take notes for project team meetings, including weekly Owner/Architect meetings and subcontractor coordination meetings.
  • Publish weekly progress reports for assigned projects and follow up for receipt, review, and distribution of information required for project construction.
  • Update project schedules as needed.
  • Assist in bidding and developing scope of work for trade contractors.
  • Work with the superintendent to prepare project schedule, including establishing dates for receiving shop drawings and milestones necessary to complete the project on time.
  • Follow up for review and approval for shop drawings, samples, material lists, etc.
  • Maintain logs, reflecting the status of shop drawings, requests for clarification, change requests, and proposal requests.
  • Advises on proper procedures for concrete pours, inspects structural reinforcing, coordinates standard slump and compaction testing, and reviews field procedures and final installation of structural elements to ensure compliance of the work.
  • Perform work sampling, observe and analyze work methods, techniques, and procedures to advise superintendent on improvement of production efficiency.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures, and report unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Safety.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related field, or the equivalent education and experience.
  • Good written and oral communication skills, with the ability to express self clearly and effectively when talking with individuals and groups.
  • Working knowledge of Word and Excel.
  • Flexibility, cooperation, learning ability, and integrity.
  • The ability to read and understand blueprints, and to understand and apply OSHA and company safety requirements.
  • One year previous field experience preferred, and working knowledge of scheduling programs preferred.
  • The ability to understand and convey basic Spanish commands, questions, and instructions regarding concrete construction.

The salary for this position is $65,000 to $80,000, with a target bonus. The company reserves the right to modify this information at any time, subject to applicable law.
