Job Overview

The Pharmacy Technician in the Outpatient setting plays a crucial role in supporting the pharmacist by ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and efficient pharmaceutical care. This position is vital to the pharmacy team, contributing to various operational aspects under the guidance of a licensed pharmacist or technician supervisor.

Key Responsibilities

As an Outpatient Pharmacy Technician, your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in the daily operations of a community or specialty pharmacy.
  • Engaging in initiatives aimed at improving processes and implementing new protocols.
  • Coordinating the orientation and training of new team members.
  • Participating in problem-solving efforts to enhance patient safety and service quality.
  • Collaborating with the department leadership to ensure coordinated care across various departments.
  • Leading quality improvement projects and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Managing all phases of pharmacy services, including communication with patients, providers, and insurance companies for prior authorizations.
  • Handling incoming calls and managing physician notes promptly.
  • Accurately interpreting and entering prescriptions, addressing any discrepancies with the pharmacist.
  • Making outbound calls to clarify prescriptions and manage formulary changes.
  • Preparing medication orders in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Gathering clinical information to assist pharmacists in patient care.
  • Packaging and labeling medications to minimize waste.
  • Monitoring controlled substance inventories as per daily requirements.
  • Completing necessary documentation and maintaining a clean pharmacy environment.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required; technician training is preferred.
  • Current Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT) is mandatory.
  • A minimum of two years of experience as a Certified Pharmacy Technician in a hospital, retail, or specialty pharmacy setting is required.

Physical Requirements

Ability to perform tasks that involve carrying, lifting, manual dexterity, and visual acuity.
