Position Overview:
The Practical Nursing Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering comprehensive patient care under the guidance of a Registered Nurse (RN). This position adheres to established nursing care plans and medical directives, ensuring that both the psychological and physical needs of patients are met.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in formulating and maintaining a personalized, goal-oriented care plan, collaborating with other healthcare professionals to meet the assessed needs of patients and their caregivers.
- Monitor, evaluate, document, and communicate patient responses to treatments and educational interventions, adjusting care priorities based on patient and caregiver requirements.
- Gather, record, and relay information regarding patients' biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational, and discharge planning needs.
- Engage in departmental enrichment initiatives that promote positive patient outcomes, including participation in assigned committees.
- Accurately observe, collect, and document patient data during care delivery, promptly reporting any significant changes in patient conditions.
- Exhibit proficiency in nursing skills as validated by orientation and skills checklists, while adhering to standard precautions and infection control protocols.
- Support patients and families throughout the admission process, providing guidance during hospital experiences and discharge, and employing effective de-escalation techniques with anxious or potentially aggressive patients.
- Facilitate age-appropriate coping strategies for patients.
Qualifications:
- Graduate from an accredited practical nursing program.
- Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in North Carolina.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
