Mammography Technologist Job Summary

UPMC is seeking a skilled Mammography Technologist to join our team. As a Mammography Technologist, you will be responsible for performing imaging procedures at a technical level, utilizing your expertise to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for diagnostic purposes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform correlative breast examinations and document scars, moles, and pertinent findings.
  • Provide individualized breast self-examination instruction and discuss the importance of annual clinical breast examinations.
  • Identify patients properly using two patient identifiers and utilize universal protocol when performing procedures.
  • Review patient history and assess physician orders, applying specific departmental protocols for optimal results.
  • Document patient history in electronic records as required.
  • Prepare patients for mammography procedures and ensure their physical safety and comfort.
  • Communicate instructions to patients in a clear and concise manner and explain procedures to alleviate fears and solicit cooperation.
  • Ensure all exams are properly coded and tracked through the RIS system, networked to ISITE for archiving and interpretation, and charges are adequately entered.
  • Assist with invasive breast imaging procedures, including ultrasound and stereotactic guided needle biopsy.
  • Perform equipment quality control procedures utilizing radioactive sources and evaluate results to ensure equipment performance is within acceptable standards.
Requirements:
  • Graduate of an ARRT-approved school of Radiologic Technology.
  • Completion of an approved Mammography Training Course that fulfills the requirements set forth by the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA).
  • ARRT Certificate.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
  • Act 33, Act 34, and Act 73 FBI Clearance.
