Job Title: Operations and Maintenance Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled Operations and Maintenance Technician to join our team at Veolia North America. As an Operations and Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for performing a variety of operation and maintenance functions at water production and related facilities.

Job Summary:

The Operations and Maintenance Technician will perform basic operational duties under the direction of a certified operator, perform maintenance tasks, and perform janitorial and laborer duties. This is an entry-level position that requires good reading, math, writing, scientific, and verbal communication skills, as well as a mechanical aptitude.

Responsibilities:
  • Operate equipment manually and through instrumentation panels, computer terminals, and programmable logic control units following process control procedures.
  • Monitor and observe operating conditions, record observations and data in shift log, and diagnose basic operational problems and take corrective action per procedure.
  • Perform routine CLAIR (cleaning, lubrication, adjustment, inspection, and minor repair) on machines and related equipment, including pumps, engines, centrifuges, generators, valves, gates, mixers, conveyors, blowers, dryers, chemical feed, odor control, disinfection equipment, vacuum filters, and belt presses.
  • Collect water, wastewater, industrial waste, groundwater, sludge, residuals, and/or gas samples according to schedule, perform field tests (chemical, physical, and biological) to pace chemical dosages for process and odor control units, and prepare chemical solutions, monitor supplies, and recommend reorder.
  • Perform routine lab tests and prepare reports per procedure, and perform routine instrument calibration for portable meters, including dissolved oxygen, pH, H2S, percent oxygen, and lower explosive limit.
  • Learns to inspect and becomes proficient at mechanical troubleshooting to determine repairs needed, dismantle equipment to gain access to and repair defective parts using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring and testing devices, reassemble and test equipment ensuring safe and efficient operating condition is restored, and learns to troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic equipment and instrumentation.
  • Perform manual labor, including cleaning equipment, facilities, and grounds as required, and properly dispose of waste according to safety and environmental policies, and operate vehicles, mobile equipment, and material handling equipment for operational and maintenance purposes.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma/GED is required.
  • Minimum water/wastewater license as required by regulatory agencies at site.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license with a safe driving record in conjunction with policies and procedures.
  • Requires good reading, math, writing, scientific, and verbal communication skills, a mechanical aptitude, and the ability to read, interpret, and record data from meters, gauges, scales, panels, computer consoles, and other equipment.
Work Environment:

Requires working in outside and inside environments with noise and all temperatures and climatic conditions, and must be able to work under adverse weather conditions for extended periods of time. Spends 100% of the time in operations environment, typically spends % of time exposed to outdoor and sometimes inclement weather.
