Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and engineer high voltage, high power density motor controllers tailored for eVTOL applications.
  • Oversee all facets of power electronics design essential for an all-electric aircraft, encompassing components, circuits, modules, and system integration.
  • Optimize passive components within power electronics systems.
  • Conduct EMC testing and analysis across various power electronics systems.
  • Lead new design initiatives from concept through to production, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Maintain complete ownership of hardware development - from specifications to design, prototyping, reliability validation, and manufacturing.
    • Develop MOSFET gate drive circuits, electronic power supplies, and sensing circuits.
    • Engage in schematic, layout, and PCB assembly design and review.
    • Design and execute prototype verification tests to validate concepts.
    • Analyze test data and reports to ensure designs meet functional and performance criteria.
    • Troubleshoot and identify root causes of issues encountered during prototype production.
Qualifications Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of pertinent experience in electrical system and circuit board design.
  • In-depth knowledge and practical experience in both traditional and contemporary power electronic technologies, including:
    • Inverter technology for variable speed motor drives (MOSFETs, rectifiers, and gate driver PWM technologies).
    • Passive power components such as inductors, capacitors, resistors, and transformers.
    • Power electronics system architecture design and hardware integration.
    • Control technologies for motor drives and power converters (AC-DC, DC-DC, DC-AC).
    • Motor control and commutation techniques for various three-phase motors.
    • Microcontroller applications.
    • Sensor technology and implementation.
    • Gate drive design for wide bandgap devices (SiC and GaN).
  • Experience with inverters rated between 50kW-200kW at voltages of 400V-1000V.
  • Proficiency in schematic capture and circuit simulation software (e.g., Altium Designer or Xpedition).
  • PCB layout experience is highly preferred.
  • Experience in conducting circuit design analyses, including worst-case circuit analysis, fault analysis, and lifetime estimation.
  • Expertise with laboratory instruments such as oscilloscopes and EMC analyzers.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Hands-on experience with DO-160G testing and DO-254 development.
  • Ph.D. in power electronics.
  • Experience in embedded firmware development.
  • A passion for aviation and eVTOL technology.
