Position Overview:

The Wildlife Enforcement Captain is tasked with overseeing the enforcement of laws related to fish and wildlife conservation within a designated geographic area. This role includes the management and supervision of law enforcement personnel and operations, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Administer and implement the law enforcement program within the region.
  • Supervise and direct law enforcement personnel, ensuring operational objectives are met efficiently.
  • Monitor budgetary expenditures and manage personnel services.
  • Conduct midyear evaluations and annual performance reviews for subordinate staff.
  • Provide technical guidance on legal interpretations and policy applications.
  • Coordinate training and career development initiatives.
  • Enforce state and federal conservation laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Maintain collaboration with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies on mutual concerns.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisory personnel.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Candidates should possess a comprehensive understanding of fish and wildlife species, outdoor recreation practices, and law enforcement principles. Strong communication skills are essential for interacting with the public and media, as well as for managing conflict and understanding criminal behavior.

Proficiency in the use of firearms and law enforcement equipment is required, along with a solid understanding of department policies and procedures. Candidates must also demonstrate the ability to analyze data and make informed decisions in a supervisory capacity.

Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Fish and Wildlife Biology, Criminal Justice, or a related discipline, combined with at least five years of relevant experience, is required. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, a U.S. citizen, and in excellent physical and mental health, capable of passing medical and agility assessments.
