Job Title: Air Pollution Inspector

Join the City of New York's Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) as an Air Pollution Inspector and contribute to the protection of public health and the environment.

About the Role

The Air Pollution Inspector will be responsible for conducting inspections of air and noise pollution sources to ensure compliance with laws, rules, and regulations. This includes investigating complaints alleging emissions into the atmosphere, improper operation of equipment, and excessive noise levels.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct inspections of air and noise pollution sources to ensure compliance with laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Investigate complaints alleging emissions into the atmosphere, improper operation of equipment, and excessive noise levels.
  • Interview complainants to verify complaints and instruct owners, lessees, agents, and building superintendents on corrective actions.
  • Serve summonses and testify in court as needed.
  • Prepare reports of inspection activities and use CRM and IPS to write summonses.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A four-year high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • A Visible Emissions Certificate and an Urban Noise Course Certificate within three years of appointment.
  • A motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York within six months of appointment.
