Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental Engineer to join our team at Barr Engineering Co. in Salt Lake City, Utah. As an Environmental Engineer, you will play a critical role in providing air permitting and compliance support to our clients in the fuels, mining, manufacturing, and power industries.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop solutions to help clients maintain optimal flexibility and profitability while complying with regulatory requirements related to air.
  • Use your technical expertise to understand clients' processes in relation to applicable environmental permits, rules, and regulations.
  • Read and interpret regulations, calculate emissions, write regulatory and technical analysis memos, and prepare routine compliance submittals.
  • Develop compliance tools to assist clients and compile permit applications.
  • Provide on-site client support, which may require out-of-town travel.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in chemical or environmental engineering or a related engineering degree.
  • Three or more years of post-college professional experience in industry, an environmental agency, or environmental consulting.
  • Experience working with regulations and environmental permitting.
  • Intrinsic motivation with an emphasis on client service and interest in growing a career in environmental consulting.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members, regulators, and clients.
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills, including attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including the use of spreadsheets.
  • Willingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedule to meet project needs.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Five or more years of post-college professional experience in industry, an environmental agency, or environmental consulting.
  • High level of proficiency working in data systems and analyzing large sets of data.
  • Experience working with regulations and environmental permitting.
  • Project or task management skills.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in building working relationships across multi-dimensional teams.
  • Aptitude for developing client relationships and business opportunities.
Work Arrangement

A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Salt Lake City, Utah, office.

Applicants must be able to work in locations that feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and to enter and work in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, high temperature and pressure process equipment, and other conditions typical of large industrial facilities. Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required; safety training will be provided.
