Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for executing essential functions related to controls engineering within the manufacturing sector. This role may involve additional responsibilities as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Exhibit comprehensive knowledge of the Manufacturing Playbook and Playlist, applying these principles across all operational areas.
  • Demonstrate expertise in tuning, synchronizing, and sequencing Siemens drive systems, particularly in web handling applications, to enhance reliability and automation. Familiarity with systems such as S110, G120, S120, Micromaster, and various AC and DC drives is essential.
  • Create detailed support documentation for troubleshooting and maintenance of drive systems.
  • Interpret and troubleshoot electrical schematics and machine drawings.
  • Configure PLC messaging and network settings effectively.
  • Develop Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID), control narratives, and testing protocols for both new and existing systems.
  • Design intermediate PLC programs and operator interfaces that adhere to established programming standards, including modular programming and object-oriented design.
  • Formulate training materials to enhance understanding of programming standards and best practices in controls engineering.
  • Collaborate with Plant Systems and Reliability teams, as well as other organizational units, to establish comprehensive hardware, programming, and documentation standards for controls and drive systems.
  • Provide mentorship and training to controls specialists, electricians, and electrical engineers within the organization.
  • Engage with external contractors and consultants to specify equipment and oversee system installations as necessary.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and capabilities related to controls and drives, leading the adoption of relevant innovations.
  • Foster relationships with key personnel to identify potential projects and generate business opportunities for plant systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in web-handling applications and controls/drives programming.
  • Intermediate understanding of web handling production processes and manufacturing systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Siemens Simatic and Simotion drives, particularly S120s.
  • Familiarity with other drive systems, including Micromaster and Baldor.
  • Experience in PLC logic development, specifically with Siemens 505 and Step 7 (S7) Series Systems.
  • Proficient in mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics.
  • Intermediate skills in AutoCAD and SCADA systems.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.
  • Completion of relevant training programs, including Siemens refresher courses and OSHA training.
  • Preferred skills in optimizing Siemens S120 drive systems and developing object-oriented HMI in System Platform.
