Middletown, Connecticut, United States Adelbrook Inc Full time
Job Title: Behavioral Technician Residential

About Our Program

Adelbrook's residential treatment program provides services to young men and women diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, offering a range of cognitive, communication, sensory, and behavioral challenges. Our goal is to acquire treatment gains, enabling a successful transition to a lower level of care, such as homes, foster care, or community living.

Job Summary:

The Behavioral Technician plays a crucial role in providing guidance, mentoring, and social and life skills training to youth in residence. This position involves ensuring a healthy, therapeutic milieu and implementing sound, trauma-informed treatment. The technician will implement therapeutic activities designed to promote adaptation of positive alternative behaviors for youth in the house.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor residents' behaviors and build therapeutic relationships to implement and support programming components within Positive Behavioral Support Plans.
  • Teach youth alternative behaviors, assist in building internal assets through proactive, positive reinforcement, and concrete behavioral strategies.
  • Use Physical Management Techniques (PMT) as a last resort to ensure a safe and therapeutic living environment.
  • Teach day-to-day life skills and assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) to encourage independence.
  • Submit documents in a clear, concise, and timely manner through the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Collect and record Antecedent, Behavior, and Consequence (ABC) data, thoroughly documenting behavior data using logs, critical incident reports, and other documentation.
  • Demonstrate ability to work with leadership and treatment team members, taking an active role in the treatment planning process.
  • Plan and implement leisure time recreational activities, coordinating with the house schedule and individual treatment needs of residents.
  • Transport residents to off-grounds activities, meetings, and medical appointments.
  • Assist residents with meal preparation.
  • Attend required agency training and abide by the agency's Code of Ethics, displaying exemplary role modeling.
  • Perform all other duties, including mandated overtime, as assigned by the Program Support Supervisor.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

Associate's degree in psychology, social work, or a human services field is required; a Bachelor's degree is preferred. At least one year of experience working with emotionally disturbed, behaviorally disordered youth, and youth with PDDs is required. Certification in CPR/AED, Physical Management Techniques (PMT), and Trauma-Informed Care are preferred but not required. A valid driver's license and clean driving record are necessary to ensure the safety of youth and coverage by the agency's insurance carrier.
