Manager of Marine Operations

Position Overview:

This role involves the coordination and management of Marine Operations along the US East Coast for CMA CGM operated vessels, as well as for our VSA partner vessels. You will serve as a key liaison with Port Operators on the East Coast regarding vessel arrivals and departures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee liner services and port operations within the East Coast Region.
  • Authorize labor orders in collaboration with terminal operators for CMA CGM vessels.
  • Communicate with the Head Office in Marseille and local terminals regarding vessel schedules.
  • Coordinate pilot, tug, linesmen, and bunker activities with Boarding Agents.
  • Manage volume and weight distribution to maximize vessel capacity.
  • Ensure partner load lists adhere to allocation limits.
  • Approve OOG reports and BB moves with NCB.
  • Engage with vessel command during port calls to optimize schedules.
  • Monitor daily production reports and relay information to Head Office and relevant teams.
  • Participate in meetings with terminal operators to address productivity issues.
  • Maintain statistics related to vessel performance and terminal departures.
  • Review and resolve port and stevedoring invoices.
  • Analyze monthly cost reports and provide feedback.
  • Undertake additional duties or projects as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with vessel operations at specific terminal locations.
  • Understanding of stowage and terminal operations.
  • General awareness of union contracts related to vessel operations.
  • Ability to provide clear and concise vessel-related instructions.
  • Comprehension of contractual obligations specific to terminal agreements.
  • Capacity to work under time constraints to ensure timely vessel dispatch.
  • Physical fitness to board vessels as necessary.
  • Willingness to travel when required.
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends, holidays, and in adverse weather conditions.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High School Diploma is mandatory.
  • Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
  • Master's License and Port Executive Program completion is advantageous.
  • 3-5 years of experience in Maritime or Intermodal/Logistics fields is essential.
  • Hazardous certification is required.
