Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Bakery Plant Material Handler to join our team at Smithfield Foods. As a key member of our production team, you will be responsible for operating powered industrial vehicles and equipment to transport, load, and unload raw materials and finished products in our bakery meal production process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate powered industrial vehicles and equipment in a safe and efficient manner to ensure compliance with established procedures and quality standards.
  • Regulate the blending of materials to ensure attainment of specified product consistency and moisture levels.
  • Assist with inventory management and perform assigned housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Unload trailers and perform spot checks to ensure accurate and efficient material handling.
  • Operate equipment in a safe manner to protect company assets and reduce risks to other workers.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED, preferred.
  • Ability to work with and around a wide range of bakery waste products, including allergens.
  • Ability to read and understand common documents, such as safety rules and procedure manuals, in English.
  • Ability to work an average of 50-hour weeks, including night, holiday, and weekend shifts.
  • Prior experience operating heavy equipment, forklifts, tractors, or other powered industrial vehicles, preferred.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain necessary certifications, such as weigh master and fork lift operator.
Work Environment and Physical Demands

The work environment will include wet or humid conditions, extreme cold and heat, working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud when in the production area.
