Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Wildlife Medical Assistant to join our team at the Santa Barbara Zoo. As a Wildlife Medical Assistant, you will play a critical role in ensuring the health and well-being of our animals, while also contributing to conservation efforts.

In this role, you will assist veterinarians with medical procedures, support daily veterinary operations, and help maintain a clean and safe environment for both staff and animals.

Responsibilities
  • Assist veterinarians with medical procedures, such as injections, venipuncture, administering medications and vaccines, and wound dressings.
  • Prepare patients, medications, equipment, and instruments for surgical procedures or basic examinations.
  • Restrains animals during procedures and assists with anesthesia and chemical immobilization.
  • Complete routine laboratory tests and prepare biological specimens for shipment.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Life Science, such as Animal Science, Biology, Zoology, Ecology, or a closely related discipline.
  • Valid registered veterinary technician (RVT) certification in the State of California.
  • At least 2 years of paid veterinary technician/assistant experience in animal care, preferably with non-domestic and exotic animals or in an AZA-accredited facility.
