Role SummaryThe Managing Attorney for the Eviction Defense Program will play a pivotal role in overseeing the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation's (AVLF) acclaimed tenant rights initiatives. This includes managing the eviction defense efforts and the specialized "Access to Counsel" program in collaboration with the City of Atlanta. The position demands a strategic leader who can enhance AVLF's litigation and advocacy strategies, providing essential support to residents at risk of eviction and displacement.

Key Responsibilities- Oversee and guide the work of at least 4 team members, ensuring quality control, providing mentorship, and facilitating effective delegation.
- Evaluate the performance and effectiveness of AVLF's eviction defense initiatives, implementing enhancements to meet community needs.
- Act as the primary liaison between AVLF and the City of Atlanta regarding the Access to Counsel initiative.
- Foster relationships with law firms, volunteers, and community partners, actively participating in relevant organizations and coalitions.
- Manage formal partnerships related to eviction defense, including memorandums of understanding and collaborative events.
- Coordinate the involvement of eviction defense teams in grant proposals, reporting, and compliance activities.
- Ensure that eviction defense teams remain informed on legal and professional developments through training and seminars.
- Support the execution of AVLF's strategic objectives and the overall impact of the Safe and Stable Homes programming.
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited institution and active membership in the State Bar of Georgia; 5-7 years of experience in landlord-tenant law litigation and supervisory roles, preferably within a nonprofit framework.
- Proven experience advocating for tenants in disputes with landlords, particularly in eviction scenarios.
- Experience working with clients from diverse racial, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise attorneys, law students, and support staff.
- Exceptional communication skills, capable of engaging effectively with a broad audience to understand and address the needs of clients and volunteers.
- Respectful and responsive to the cultural beliefs and practices of clients.
- Strong collaborative abilities and a knack for developing innovative solutions.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to excellence in execution.
- Organized with the capacity to prioritize client needs effectively.
- Proficient in legal research and writing, with strong skills in MS Office Suite; familiarity with Salesforce is advantageous.
Salary: $85,000 - $90,000
