Our team is looking for a skilled Melting Unit Operator to exercise complete responsibility from filling to delivery of multiple melting units. Responsibilities include taking and recording optical, thermocouple, amperage, voltage, and resistance readings on melting units, making necessary adjustments to maintain process control, and observing conditions of refractory and interior of melting units. The ideal candidate will have part-time direction of apprentices, operate and monitor all pollution control devices, and assemble information on depth of glass in forehearth, forebay, and bowl, glass flow, glass quality, etc. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of melting processes, ability to diagnose unusual melting problems, and make necessary adjustments. In addition, they will be able to install and operate composite orifices and delivery systems, change and position hot refractory parts, clean and adjust high and low pressure gas and oil burners, and maintain records of all changes and adjustments. The estimated salary for this position is $65,000 - $85,000 per year, depending on location and experience.
