Safety Specialist

Mortenson is seeking a highly skilled Safety Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our safety team, you will be responsible for ensuring a safe work environment for our team members, subcontractors, and visitors. Your primary focus will be on implementing and maintaining our Zero Injury program, which aims to eliminate workplace injuries and illnesses.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute site-specific safety programs and activities in collaboration with the project management team.
- Conduct safety orientations, training programs, and audits to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company policies.
- Document and track safety violations, unsafe conditions, and incidents.
- Collect and analyze leading and trailing indicator data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Conduct major incident analyses and provide recommendations for prevention.
- Monitor and analyze safety, injury, and hazard statistics to inform safety decisions.
- Coordinate OSHA reporting and posting requirements.
- Review safety submittals and attend preconstruction and preparatory meetings with subcontractors.
- Monitor and review trade partner work plans and activities for safety concerns.
- Assist with onsite injury management and case management.
- Monitor Return to Work and Modified duty assignments.
- Assist with the organization and implementation of project safety celebrations and recognition/reward programs.
- Participate in and contribute to project planning and hazard analysis.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in safety, occupational health, or a related field by summer 2025.
- Current driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
- Ability to relocate frequently for project assignments, based on business needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous relevant internship experience.
- Detail-oriented and organized, with strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies to team members and outside parties.
- Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, and leadership skills.
- Effective public speaking and presentation skills.
