Job Summary

Delphinus Engineering is seeking a skilled Shipboard Mechanic to join our team in San Diego, CA. As a key member of our Marine Services division, you will be responsible for performing routine mechanical work on U.S. Navy shore facilities, waterborne vessels, surface ships, and/or submarines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform inspections, repairs, modernization, and/or alterations on shipboard systems and equipment
  • Use precision measurement equipment, including scales and vernier calipers, to support repairs on pumps, valves, and motors
  • Disconnect and reconnect mechanical joints, and remove and install various equipment using sound engineering practices
  • Assist with cleaning up work areas and perform duties as Firewatch
  • Travel to other locations as required
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; formal related course of study in trade through community college, technical or trade school, military training, or formal company training program preferred
  • 1-3 years of verifiable experience as a mechanic in an industrial environment, such as shipbuilding, ship repair, or nuclear power plants
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, written technical instructions, and manuals
  • Working knowledge of shipboard systems operating requirements and ability to read and understand material safety data sheets (MDS)
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and possess rigging experience (preferred but not required)
Working Conditions

The work environment is typically shipboard, with occasional exposure to work near moving mechanical parts or working in a confined space. The noise level is usually moderate.
