About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Landscape Maintenance Specialist to join our team at Wake County Public School System. As a member of our facilities management team, you will be responsible for ensuring the beauty and functionality of our outdoor spaces.

Job Summary

This is a heavy physical work position that requires the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force. You will operate various equipment such as computers, hand/power tools, and automotive equipment, while working in an indoor and outdoor environment.

Responsibilities
  1. Completes assigned work orders relating to landscape maintenance; troubleshoots appropriate measures, and performs work, as required, by work order.
  2. Maintains compliance and adherence to all safety procedures, occupational health practices, and maintaining a safe work environment.
  3. Sprays, treats, and prunes landscapes to control weeds and pests using judgment in selecting appropriate materials and methods.
  4. Safely operates landscape maintenance equipment including but not limited to mowers, weed eaters, leaf blowers, and sprayers; performs routine maintenance and repairs on landscape equipment.
  5. Ensures proper storage, selection, mixing, packaging, and application of hazardous chemicals and toxic materials.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years of experience in a landscape design and maintenance field.
  • Must hold and maintain a valid North Carolina Pesticide Applicators License with "L" and "H" endorsements.
  • Able to perform routine maintenance on landscape equipment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff.
Working Environment/Physical Requirements

This position operates in an indoor and outdoor environment. Work is considered heavy physical work, requiring the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force. The work requires the ability to operate automotive equipment, as well as frequent exposure to hazardous materials, gases, and chemicals, moving parts, and inclement weather conditions.

Estimated Salary

The estimated salary for this position is approximately $54,000 - $63,000 per year, based on the location in Raleigh, NC, and industry standards.
