Job Summary

The Ophthalmic Photographer Specialist is a critical member of the Carle Health team, responsible for providing high-quality diagnostic imaging support to clinical physicians. This role requires a unique blend of technical expertise, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate specialized equipment to capture high-quality images of ophthalmic patients, including ocular fundus imaging systems, optical coherence tomography, and photo slit lamp biomicroscopes.
  • Supervise and direct ophthalmic photographers, staff, and trainees to ensure seamless operation of the imaging department.
  • Prepare images, videos, and other imaging support materials for educational presentations, lectures, and clinical research studies.
  • Obtain certification for clinical research studies that require photography for data collection.
  • Review proposed grant applications and clinical trials protocols to advise faculty members on the impact of photographic efforts on resources and costs.
  • Research and recommend the purchase of high-tech equipment to upgrade photographic services in each retinal exam room.
  • Maintain and upgrade clinical examination device computers, academic computers, and departmental websites.
  • Perform visual acuity screening, ophthalmic preliminary and diagnostic tests, and maintain and clean ophthalmic instruments.
  • Assist with patient scheduling and training other staff on ophthalmic diagnostic instruments.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree in a related field.
  • Certified Optical Coherence Tomographer (OCT-C) within 6 months and Certified Retinal Angiographer (CRA) within 4 years.
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification from a recognized certification body.
  • 1 year of experience in a related healthcare field.
  • Medical terminology knowledge and skills.
