Postdoctoral Fellow, Analytical Chemistry
Job Summary:The Auburn University Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to join the AU Canine Performance Science Detection Canine Science, Innovation, Technology, and Education (DCSITE) program. The successful candidate will engage in original, professional-level research in analytical chemistry, focusing on the analysis of various target threat substances using chromatography-based separation techniques coupled with mass spectrometry platforms.
Responsibilities:- Develop and implement analytical chemistry methods for the detection of energetic materials and other target substances.
- Lead instrument maintenance and ensure the optimal performance of mass spectrometry platforms.
- Co-mentor research assistants and provide guidance on research projects.
- Write progress reports, peer-reviewed publications, and proposed plans.
The AUCPS/DCSITE program is a premier academic resource for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, providing expertise in detection canine sciences. The program integrates best scientific practices in analytical chemistry, genetics, genomics, reproduction, veterinary and sports medicine, olfactory neuroscience, behavior and cognition, metrology, and engineering to advance detection canine sciences.
Requirements:- Ph.D. in analytical chemistry or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrated expertise in gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and experience in liquid chromatography and ion mobility spectrometry.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, written communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and self-direct a research project.
- U.S. citizenship.
