About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Surgical Technologist to join our team at UPMC St. Margaret. As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our Operating Room. Your expertise and attention to detail will be essential in providing exceptional patient care and contributing to the success of our surgical team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare the operating room for surgical procedures by setting up instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies.
  • Assist the surgical team by passing instruments, sponges, and sutures to surgeons and surgical assistants.
  • Prepare patients for surgery by washing, shaving, and ensuring aseptic incision sites.
  • Transport patients to the operating room and help position them on the operating table.
  • Assist in the preparation, care, and disposal of specimens taken for laboratory analysis.
  • Ensure all medications are labeled and handed to the surgeon according to established policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure a safe and efficient operating room environment.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Scrub Technician program/course or a related science or Health Science program/course is required or previous experience as an OR Tech may be substituted.
  • Completion of a formal surgical technician program offered by a community or junior college, vocational school, university, hospital, or the military, preferred.
  • 0-2 years of experience.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required.
  • Act 33 with renewal, Act 34 with renewal, and Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2 years of current surgical technician experience that demonstrates advanced knowledge of at least 2 surgical specialties.
  • Completion of a program sponsored by nationally recognized institutional or programmatic accreditation and maintains certification or has completed appropriate military training program or maintains certification from accredited program or was employed as a surg tech in a health care facility on or before effective date of the act (12/27/2020) or employed as a surg tech at another health care facility two years before effective date (12/27/2020).
