Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Structural Repair Specialist to join our team at the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority. As a key member of our Pipe Maintenance department, you will be responsible for performing inspection, servicing, and maintenance on structural components of vehicles, shop equipment, and steel water mains.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect and Repair structural components of vehicles and equipment to locate trouble and determine needed repairs.
  • Install and Maintain pipe and valve restraints and pipe supports.
  • Perform Welding and Cutting procedures under the direction of senior staff members.
  • Repair and Maintain MWRA steel water mains, tanks, and hatches.
  • Manage Inventory of welding and cutting stock, including structural steel members, and recommend needed supplies.
  • Keep Accurate Records of work performed.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience
    • A high school diploma or GED.
    • One (1) year certificate from college or technical school.
    • Three (3) to six (6) years experience in welding, grinding, and cutting in an automotive and heavy equipment area.
  • Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • Knowledge of methods, tools, materials, and practices used in repairing, rebuilding, and adjusting automotive equipment.
    • Skill in the use of tools and equipment employed in repairs, rebuilding, and adjustment work.
    • Skill in diagnosing structural problems in conjunction with senior staff members.
    • Ability to operate any motor-driven equipment in the section.
    • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
    • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communications skills.
    • Basic reading, writing, mathematical, and scientific skills.
  • Special Requirements
    • A valid Class D Massachusetts Motor Vehicles Operator's License.
Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The employee occasionally works in extreme bright light or extreme inadequate light conditions, cramped work space that requires getting into awkward positions.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud in field settings, and moderately quiet in an office setting.
