Position Overview: The Family Engagement Coordinator will collaborate with refugee families, educational staff, and local school districts to facilitate academic and civic integration, promoting the educational success of newly arrived refugee students.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Educational Support and Guidance:
    • Conduct training sessions for parents and students to enhance understanding of the U.S. education system and its cultural nuances.
    • Evaluate the educational backgrounds of refugee students, identify obstacles to academic achievement, and create tailored educational service plans.
    • Develop academic support strategies in partnership with parents of enrolled students.
    • Provide orientation for newly arrived students and their families regarding the U.S. education system and local school district policies.
    • Connect students with tutoring services and additional educational resources.
    • Refer students to IRC services or external partners for necessary medical and social support.
    • Train and supervise volunteer mentors for academic coaching initiatives.
  • Group Programming Facilitation:
    • Organize schedules and logistics for group-based student programming.
    • Create meeting agendas and lesson plans for group activities.
    • Lead group meetings and oversee seasonal educational activities in accordance with program designs.
    • Ensure compliance with safeguarding and security protocols.
    • Track student attendance and engagement.
    • Maintain regular communication with parents and caregivers.
    • Provide cultural training to educational partners.
  • Program Management and Reporting:
    • Maintain program data and information systems in line with IRC standards and contractual requirements.
    • Ensure proper enrollment of program participants and maintain comprehensive student records.
    • Collect and enter program data consistently, adhering to contractual obligations.
    • Contribute to program reporting for both internal and external stakeholders.
    • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
  • Team Collaboration:
    • Work collaboratively with Youth Programs team members and other departments to provide comprehensive support for families.
    • Partner with the volunteer coordinator to recruit and train mentors.
    • Ensure follow-up on referrals across programs.
    • Offer support and expertise to other teams regarding youth and family needs.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, ideally in education, psychology, or social work.
  • Experience working with at-risk youth in educational and social contexts.
  • Familiarity with case management and experience with refugee or immigrant populations is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of the U.S. education system.
  • Excellent communication skills, with proficiency in written and spoken English; bilingual skills in relevant local languages are a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate meetings with students.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends as needed.
